George has over 36 years of public accounting experience. In addition to his CPA, George is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). He serves a wide variety of closely held businesses and service organizations. George specializes in tax matters pertaining to individuals, s-corporations, regular corporations, limited liability companies, non-profits and estates and trusts including year-end tax planning.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Prior to joining George W. Smith & Company PC in 1986 George worked in the Lansing office of Ernst & Whinney. George W. Smith & Company merged with AHP in 2020 during which he became a partner.
EDUCATION
George graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
George is a member of the American Institute Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Meghan’s ARMY as Treasurer. He is an active member of the Detroit Goodfellows/Old Newsboys. George also writes the income taxes chapter of the World Almanac as well as contributes tax advice to local newsprint and television media.
